E-books
A NAG SEMINAR
19TH May 2004
University of London Library, Malet St, London
E-BOOKS, THE WAY FORWARD
Are you aware of the rapid growth of the adoption and use of e-books?
After a slow start, when it seemed they would merely serve a niche market,
e-books now seem to be taking off.
This seminar takes an all round look at e-books from the perspective of the
academic library, the public library, the publishers, the academics and the
JISC.
It explores and clarifies some of the outstanding issues that still need to
be resolved if the use of e-books is to reach its full potential. E. g.
* availability of latest editions
* fair pricing models
* user-friendly presentation of material
* exploitation of the technology to add value
* use in the teaching and learning environment
The seminar also looks at cataloguing and metadata issues and examines how
the supply chain of the future may be configured.
There will also be an opportunity for you to contribute your ideas on how
the e-books industry might develop to mutual advantage.
A full programme will be posted to our website on www.nag.org.uk
<http://www.nag.org.uk> shortly.
