The core collection includes engineering books, journals and standards and all of the IMechE's journals, seminars and conference papers. For historians, they maintain archives charting the development and progress of mechanical engineering. The IMechE makes available its collections of archives for all those with an interest in engineering history. The Archive includes collections of personal papers of some of the most influential engineers in the world, as well as images and artefacts, such as steam engines, showing the development of mechanical engineering.
The Library is housed in what is regarded as one of the finest examples of traditional architecture in Westminster. Birdcage Walk is surrounded by notable landmarks including Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parlament.
