Not exactly compelling, is it?

<David> Neither is your argument, Aran. All you have proved is that
newspapers are not as interested in libraries as they are in hospitals and
the law. My goodness, what a shock! Try to compare like with like for
goodness sake. How many drama shows on TV have libraries as their base?
How many have lawyers and hospitals. They are both, and always will be,
more prominent professions than ours, and so what for that? CILIP regularly
publish press releases, it's hardly their fault that these are not taken up
as stories by the press.
Perhaps CILIPs problem is that it doesn't sing from the rooftops about just
how well it does. I have been fortunate enough to witness two of CILIPs
central functions this year, a course accreditation and the chartership
board - both are operated professionally and robustly, and I for one was
greatly reassured by witnessing both that my association is one to respect.
This may not convince many of you, but all I can say is what others have -
if you don't like the way your association is run, take part in committees
and groups yourself and try to change it.
