I also like the idea, but I have two observations.
1. CILIP would have to publish their 'recommended rate' list, along with
the relevant skills appropriate for each level - I would like to see
such a list anyway. It would help with CPD aims and objectives as well.
2. Job descriptions and (especially) titles vary so much between
organisations that I think there would probably have to be a certain
amount of standardisation for the ratings to be clear.
One side-effect would be the increased amount of time on the part of the
editors of the Gazette in undertaking this - but there again, at least
we would see our membership fees usefully at work.
