Dear all,
I am copying this email to you in the hope that you may have used, or be
current users of the ETOH database, a useful source of alcohol addiction
material produced in the USA, but with a wider coverage. If any of you feel
moved to write to the NIAAA director, at [log in to unmask], protesting about
the loss of this valuable resource I'm sure our American colleagues will be
grateful.

Subject: [SALIS-l] Urgent ETOH No Longer Updated
Dear Colleagues,
I am writing to alert you to the news that the Alcohol and Alcohol Problems
Science Database known as ETOH and the supporting Thesaurus are being shut
down by NIAAA Director Ting Kai Li.
NIAAA has supported the development and maintenance of this database for
over thirty years, and as well has funded the AOD Thesaurus, now in its
third edition.
The strengths of ETOH are its multi disciplinary coverage of the alcohol
literature, the fact that it indexes nearly fifty of the English Language
and foreign language specialty addiction journals, plus hundreds of other
journals across the bio-psycho-social fields. In addition ETOH includes
books, state and federal government documents, think tank and other
research institute reports and dissertation abstracts. Approximately 4,
500 abstracts are added to the database each year, which now comprises over
110,000 records.
There is going to be some kind of briefing meeting which concerns this
decision on Jan 7th.
We need to try to reverse this decision and let NIAAA know how much ETOH is
used in our work to support the scientists and other professionals we
serve. Act now to send a letter from your organization to NIAAA, asking
that this decision be re-considered.
