You might like to look at
A hypertextual interface for a searcher's thesaurus / by Eric H.
Johnson and Pauline A. Cochrane, Grainger Engineering Library
Information Center, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign,
1301 West Springfield Ave., Urbana, IL 61801, USA., [1995 or
1996?]

If you are interested in interfaces that show different facets from a
thesaurus and allow them to be combined in a search, there are some
references at
<http://www.willpowerinfo.co.uk/thesbibl.htm#interfaces>

This sounds as though you want a classified presentation of thesaurus
terms, grouped by subject fields rather than just by the BT/NT
hierarchies. These sorts of presentation were done in printed versions
such as Thesaurofacet
Thesaurofacet: a thesaurus and faceted classification for
engineering and related subjects. - Whetstone, Leicester : The
English Electric Company, Ltd., 1969.
and the BSI ROOT thesaurus
BSI ROOT thesaurus. - 3rd ed. - Milton Keynes : British
Standards Institution, 1988. - 2v ; 30cm. - ISBN 058016991x,
but I don't know of a computerised version that does it properly,
unfortunately. If anyone else knows of software that will do this, I
would be interested too.
Gerry McKiernan, at Iowa State University, proposed a project a few
years ago, which is still described at
<http://www.public.iastate.edu/~CYBERSTACKS/Projects.htm> as follows,
but there is nothing more. Perhaps he wasn't able to find anything:
HyperThesauri(sm): hypertext thesauri for Web access and
navigation
For a planned review and clearinghouse, I am interested in
learning of projects, research, products and services that have
created or adapted thesauri within a hypertext format as a
secondary or primary method of managed subject access.
