Dear all,
I hope you can provide me with information about your own Patients
Libraries - if you have one!
Coventry Libraries and Information services is looking into the
development of it's Patients Library Service which it currently runs in
Walsgrave Hospital with mainly recreational reading matter to support
trolley rounds and staff reading. This utilises public library staff and
stock, however staffing is paid for by the hospital along with the premises
and running costs.
I was wondering if anyone could provide some information about
their
own Patients Libraries or decisions on why such services have been
discontinued.
Are ward rounds provided by volunteers instead?
Have you any information about current thinking on what
Patients/Hospital Libraries should be? - has there been any recent
discussions or reports/articles, examples of good practise or
reccomendations?
We are particularly looking at the following services and if they
should be provided, where they should be located, and who they should be
provided by.
I would be grateful if you could comment on these or
also/alternatively have you got any contacts in Patients Libraries I could
approach on this subject?
1)recreational reading - magazines, fiction, non fiction
2)services - ward delivery, housebound service, information
3)health information - how provided, who by
4)what is the relation between the local public library
service and the local hospital trust - Is there a separate patients library
and medical/nursing library - how do they relate?
5) Should patients services be located through the main
public libraries - possibly in partnership or co locations with other
health
providers.
We are in the process of contacting jisc mailing lists,
have
had a LISA search, and have contacted CILIP on this subject.
However it seems there has been little done about patients
libraries recently so I am hoping you can provide me with some guidance!
Thankyou for your time
