The reports are normally published by individual authorities, so there doesn
t seem to be a single place to search, or a single repository. Try local
government websites. The British Library may have copies through legal
deposit.
Suggestions for places to search were:
NSPCC Information Service online catalogue on the site
http://www.nspcc.org.uk/inform. Apparently the library catalogue hasn t
been updated for a year due to technical problems, so some of the more
recent ones may not be found.
Child Area Protection Committees http://www.dfes.gov.uk/acpc - PDFs of
publications and consultation documents, but not the individual reports
themselves.
National Criminal Justice Service Abstracts database
http://abstractsdb.ncjrs.org/content/AbstractsDB_Search.asp
Department of Constitutional Affairs http://www.dca.org.uk - "as public
inquiries normally start with an instruction from the Lord Chancellor and
handled by
the Treasury Solicitor's department (part of the Government Legal Service)."
Liverpool John Moore s University Campus Wide Information Service
(http://cwis.livjm.ac.uk/lea/info/health/heareps.htm) has a section Health
related reports, inquiries, Green Papers and White Papers: short and
official titles : This is an alphabetical list of the short, "popular"
titles by which official health-related reports, green papers, white papers
and acts of parliament are often known. These short titles are often derived
from the name of the person who chaired the group or committee who produced
the report.
Other suggestions were SOSIG, ASSIA, HMIC, Campbell Collaboration, ISI
Social Sciences citation index, Sociofile, and University of Central England
in Bristol where the library collection from the National Institute for
Social Work now resides.
And for the Toni-Ann Byfield report:
Birmingham Areac Child Protection Committee -
http://www.birminghamacpc.org.uk/contact.html
and Birmingham City Council
http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/GenerateContent?CONTENT_ITEM_ID=37783&CONTENT_I
TEM_TYPE=9&MENU_ID=5101 although one colleague did tell me that "the Inquiry
of Toni-Ann Byfield has only just finished, so there will be no report yet"
So thank you once again.
