b) Knovel Agreement - Amendment & Extended Trial Period

---------------------------------------------------------

Chest and Knovel Corporation have just completed a significant amendment
to the current Chest Agreement for Knovel. The new

amendment introduces simplified pricing and a range of 'pick and mix'
subject based products, alongside the existing packages.

Pricing starts from just £79.00 +VAT for the subject-specific products
and £1564.50 +VAT for the packages. Full details can be

found online at <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/datasets/knovel/>.

The official launch date for the amended Agreement is 1st August 2004
but Chest Sites may purchase immediately if they

wish.

Extended Trial
--------------

To celebrate the amendment of the Agreement and for a limited time only,
Knovel would like to offer any eligible Chest Sites an extended 60 day
trial. For more information please contact
<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

The Knovel information service is a single online source providing
access to over 590 datasets and references from the world's top

technical reference books for scientific and engineering research.
Knovel answers complex questions quickly and easily and can help

solve the problem of unreliable information sources found on the Web.
More information can be found on the Knovel website at <http://
<http://www.knovel.com>www.knovel.com <http://www.knovel.com>>.

c) Call for expressions of Interest in Bentham Science Journals
------------------------------------------------------------

Bentham Science is a leading publisher of STM journals in the biomedical
and pharmaceutical sciences. We believe that many of the publications
will be of interest to researchers and academics in these fields in the
UK and Ireland. Please forward this message to your colleagues who have
an interest in these disciplines.

Eduserv Chest would like to hear from sites that might be interested in
a Chest Agreement for the journals published by Bentham Science. The
list of journals classified by discipline can be found here
<http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/bentham-journals.rtf>. Full details
of the journals can be found on the publisher's web site at
<http://www.bentham.org/>. A two month free trial is available to Chest
members. Please contact Mr P Menon, <mailto:[log in to unmask]>
for details on how to access the journals.

Potential prices for these journals under a Chest Agreement have not
been negotiated yet. First we want to establish the potential level of
interest. Please submit an expression of interest form
<http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/cgi-bin/eoi.cgi?lnk=bent> at any time.
We would like to hear from you by the end of June or before.

d) Compendia Products
-----------------------

Chest have recently been in consultation with CAB International for
their Compendia products, these products will be of interest to
agriculture and animal health departments.

At the moment there are three products available: Animal Health and
Production Compendium, Crop Protection Compendium and Forestry Compendium.

The Compendia are user friendly reference databases, with built in
diagnostic tools. They contain global coverage of crops, trees, farm
animals (relevant to each compendium) and the diseases and pest that
affect them. The compendia are built around an intelligent taxonomic
framework and an advanced cross reference facility which provides fast,
effective navigation around vast amounts of data.

Animal Health and Production:

----------------------------

Contains up to date information on 20,000 diseases, with comprehensive,
illustrated information on 250 diseases of pigs, ruminants and poultry
worldwide. Also contains international veterinary drugs, vaccines and
products database, a library of topics in food animal production, plus
illustrated descriptions of over 250 livestock and poultry breeds.

Crop Protection:

---------------

This Compendium provides solutions for identifying, preventing and
solving crop health problems. It contains a step by step diagnostic tool
and provides information on pesticides, natural predators and parasites
that destroy pests, cultural practices and seed selection. It also
contains up to date information on 10,000 pests, diseases, weeds and
natural enemies as well as data on over 200 crops.

Forestry Compendium:

---------------------

The Forestry Compendium includes a powerful but simple 'Species
Selection Module' which helps the user identify species which might be
suitable for trials in a planting programme, by analysing a wide variety
of factors including: latitude, altitude, temperature, rainfall, soil,
land use, silviculture, wood uses and non-wood uses.

Further information and access to a 30 day free trial are available from
the supplier by emailing details of your institution and the product(s)
you would like to trial to <mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

At present each product can be either purchased as a CD Rom or via
Internet Access, at present subscriptions are based on the number of
simultaneous users required.

If your institution is interested in principle in an Eduserv Chest
Agreement for any of these compendium products please email
<mailto:[log in to unmask]> with the subject heading
'Compendium' stating which you are interested in.

No pricing has yet been fixed and no site expressing an interest will be
committed, but for Eduserv Chest to proceed further it is first
necessary for us to ascertain whether in principle sites might be
interested in an agreement for this product.

e) [log in to unmask]
---------------

Chest regrets to inform you that negotiations with Primal Pictures for
[log in to unmask] have been unsuccessful. We will, however, actively seek
alternative products to include in our Portfolio.

f) Discussions with CSA
----------------------

Following discussions between CSA and Eduserv Chest, it has been decided
that due to the value already offered by the following databases; ASSIA,
ANTE, LISA & BHI, no further benefit could be gained via a CHEST
agreement. Sites should approach CSA direct for renewals and new orders.

Chest and CSA are discussing pricing proposals for DAAI (Design and
Applied Arts Index) and ABM (Art Bibliographies Modern) and have started
preliminary talks about Sage Publications.
