a) Eduserv Chest Exhibition - Birmingham
----------------------------------------

Date: Thursday, 6th May 2004
Venue: Birmingham Botanical Gardens
Booking deadline: Friday, 23rd April 2004

To help improve the awareness to the education community of the many and varied products available through Eduserv Chest negotiated agreements we are holding a series of exhibitions based around particular subject areas or 'themes'.

The first event will take place on Thursday 6th May 2004 at the Botanical Gardens Birmingham and will be based around the general theme of 'Science'. We currently have around a dozen of the leading Eduserv Chest suppliers exhibiting with whom we have agreements covering a wide range of 'science' disciplines including chemistry, physics, computing, electronics, engineering, geography, GIS, science reference data and data handling.

This event provides those personnel from 'science' faculties a chance to meet with suppliers and find out what is available. All are welcome to attend but the exhibition should be of interest to representatives from those sites that have not yet signed up to a particular 'science related' Eduserv Chest agreement but are considering doing so. For those who already subscribe to one or more of the Eduserv Chest agreements this will be an opportunity meet their suppliers and provide valuable feedback to both suppliers and Chest.

Admission to the exhibition is free but delegates will be required to register on arrival. Delegates can register from 10.00am with the exhibition starting at 10.30am and finishing 3.30pm. Delegates can attend at any time during the day but an indication whether you wish to arrive in the morning or afternoon would be helpful. Lunch will be from 12.30pm to 1.30pm and is provided free to all attendees.

The Birmingham Botanical Gardens is an excellent venue and all those attending will have the opportunity to look around the Gardens, free of charge.

Places are limited so early booking is advisable. To book, please go to <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/general/exhibition_form.html> <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/general/exhibition_form.html>

Details of all current Eduserv Chest agreements and offers can be found at <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/> <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/>

b) New Agreement for Geobase
-------------------------------

Eduserv Chest is pleased to announce the completion of the Agreement for Geobase, the multidisciplinary database supplying bibliographic information and abstracts for development studies, the Earth sciences, ecology, geomechanics, human geography, and oceanography.

This agreement was due to start last year on 8th December but there have been unavoidable delays so it has been agreed that sites wanting to subscribe will be charged pro-rata (on a monthly basis) for the remainder of this Agreement year (to 7th December 2004). The Agreement will run until 7th December 2006 and is open to HE Institutions and Research Councils in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

Pricing is in two parts, one for Data and one for Service Provision. The appointed Service Providers are ScienceDirect, OCLC and Silverplatter. Eduserv Chest will invoice sites for the Data and Service Provision if ScienceDirect is chosen as Service Provider. Invoicing for service provision from OCLC or Silverplatter will be directly from them.

Pricing is based on FTE and the number of FTE is defined as the Full Time Equivalent number of students and faculty staff at an Institution (full and part time).

e) brad - confirm your commitment
------------------------------------

Chest have been in negotiations with the bradgroup for their brad media products and following a good response from an Expression of Interest would like sites to confirm their commitment to the following proposed agreement.

A minimum number of sites is required for the agreement to go ahead, the Chest price represents a discount of around 20% on the current list price and the supplier has agreed that current subscribers would be able to pro-rata costs in the first year to bring them in line to an agreed date.

brad: brad brings you comprehensive and up to date advertising related information on over 13,500 media entries across all media sectors e.g. websites, newspapers and magazines. This enables the user to plan advertising campaigns with confidence.

A typical brad entry will tell you when the title is published, who publishes it, what the editorial content covers, who it is aimed at, how many of the target audience are reached, and how much it costs to advertise in. A sample brad entry can be viewed here.

brad is an essential information source for any student of media, marketing or advertising.

brad is sold in two packages. brad combined offers one copy of the printed brad directory per month and four passwords to brad online. The brad online package consists simply of eight brad online passwords. Both packages are usually priced at £970 + vat.

bradnet: bradnet enables you to search the brad database using multiple search criteria and to create, amend and store media schedules before extracting the data (usually into an excel spreadsheet). This takes hours off the time it takes to compile a list of appropriate advertising channels.

The information in brad is updated on a continuous cycle directly from source.

Further details of the brad range of media products can be obtained at <http://www.intellagencia.com/info.asp?content=media> <http://www.intellagencia.com/info.asp?content=media> .

Pricing (exclusive of VAT):
The pricing proposal is for a 3 year Agreement, with an expected start date of August 2004:

brad (Combined or online package): £745 per year for 8 concurrent users or £745 per year for 4 concurrent users and a monthly print copy

bradnet: £2145 per year for 5 concurrent users

Chest prices represent around 20% discount on the current list price.

Access will be via user name and password allowing for remote access.

Subscription cost includes 9 - 5 helpline, and 1-1 or 1 - group training (bradnet only).

If you know your college/university would commit to purchasing a licence for brad, or if you have any feed back on the proposal please take a moment to e-mail <mailto:[log in to unmask]> <mailto:[log in to unmask]> with the subject line 'brad commitment'.

If you are able to fill in a purchase order now please make it payable to Eduserv Chest for bradcombi or bradnet to Eduserv Chest, Queen Anne House, 11 Charlotte Street, Bath, BA1 2NE.

Alternatively, please forward this message to an appropriate colleague in the media and/or marketing departments.

f) Call for Expressions of Interest in Aroq Online Industry Information Services
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please circulate this message widely to your colleagues. We believe that there might be interest in these services in a number of different fields, such as business and management studies, engineering, catering and hospitality, design and creative arts and technology.

Eduserv Chest has been approached by the publisher Aroq Ltd. with a view to negotiating a possible agreement for four online industry information services. The services www.just-auto.com, www.just-drinks.com, www.just-food.com and www.just-style.com provide the latest global news, in-depth weekly articles, monthly management briefings and global market review reports.

A site licence agreement with Aroq will be open to all Chest members, including Ireland, Associate Sites and others. Prices for subscriptions to these resources have not been decided however, we anticipate that they will be banded according to institution size, using JISC bands. Starting price for one of the services for a site in the highest band will be in the region of £3500; the lowest band £350. Prices for organisations outside the JISC band system have yet to be decided but will be of a similar order. There will be up to 50% discount for sites licensing more than one service. It is hoped that Athens authentication will be available.

Sites can apply for a free trial to the subscription material until 30/04/04 by sending a message to <mailto:[log in to unmask]> <mailto:[log in to unmask]> .

Please click on the link below to express your interest or otherwise in the Aroq services. Please indicate which of the four services you are interested in the "comments" section <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/cgi-bin/eoi.cgi?lnk=aroq> <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/cgi-bin/eoi.cgi?lnk=aroq> . We would appreciate your response by 07/05/04.
