a) Reach Online IT Courseware - Chest Special Offer
----------------------------------------------------

Chest is pleased to announce it has reached agreement with Reach Online Limited to provide a Special Offer for their IT courseware.
This Special Offer is open to all categories of Chest Site and will be available as of 1st November 2004.

All that's needed to run the Reach Online courseware is a PC connected to the Internet. The courseware is managed via it's own web-based VLE and, as it is SCORM/AICC compliant, it can also be integrated with VLEs such as Blackboard and WebCT. Reach Online is already supplying a number of Universities and Colleges in the UK.

A range of Course Libraries are available, including:
End User Desktop Computing
End User Business Skills Development
Technical General
Technical Microsoft
Technical Web Development
ECDL and ICDL
New CLAIT

'Units' are purchased by a Site and then allocated to individual users on a 'draw down' basis for them to redeem against the Course Library(ies) of their choice.

*****As part of this Special Offer, any Chest Site will receive an additional 50% of the units they purchase free of charge*****

For more information, including full pricing details, please see http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/courseware/reach-online/ <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/courseware/reach-online/> or contact Tim Hobday, 01225 403225, <mailto:[log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> >

Large: 15,001 +

Pricing for Research Councils and Associated Sites is available on request.

Sites signing up before the end of December 2004 will benefit from a special offer: they will pay Year 1 prices in each of years 1 and 2 of the Agreement.

The following information is taken from the RefWorks website <http://www.refworks.com/ <http://www.refworks.com/> >:

"Users can use the references in writing their papers and automatically format the paper and the bibliography in seconds.

RefWorks allows you to...

    * Organize and create a personal database online - no more index cards to write out and organize. Everything is done automatically as you import the reference into RefWorks.

    * Format bibliographies and manuscripts in seconds - this saves hours of typing time and decreases the number of errors in creating tedious bibliographies. Easily make changes to your paper and reformat in seconds.

    * Import references from a variety of databases using the already created Import Filters. (A list of database services supported by RefWorks is available at <http://www.refworks.com/refworks/importdbs.asp <http://www.refworks.com/refworks/importdbs.asp> >

    * Searching your RefWorks database is fast and easy - RefWorks automatically creates author, descriptor and periodical indexes when importing so you just click on the word to perform the retrieval. Use Quick Search to search all fields for the most comprehensive results or Advanced Search to narrow your search to specific terms and fields.

Why an Internet-based solution?

Unlimited site-wide access. RefWorks is instantly available institute wide - no downloading or installation is needed. Easy to deliver, maintain and support!

Upgrades Included. All upgrades are included in the subscription price: no extra charge for new features.

Program can be used across multiple platforms. As a web-based product, RefWorks is available to users across various platforms including Windows, Mac, Unix etc.

Easy to deliver upgrades. The latest upgrades are loaded on the RefWorks server; all users automatically have access to the most recent version.

Program is available from anywhere. Authorized users may access the program from anywhere at anytime - no extra charge or tracking hassles."

It is anticipated that licences will be available from the Chest web site from next week. Meanwhile, if sites are interested in subscribing please email <mailto:[log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> > with details of the size of your site.

c) Call for expressions of interest in Bepress Research Now Database

The database consists of peer-reviewed electronic journals covering subjects in the science, technology and medicine, social sciences, economics, political science and law. You can request a free 30 day trial by email to <mailto:[log in to unmask]>
