Subject: Placing course readings online?
Can anyone recommend a good source for finding about online copyright
procedure?
We are considering placing both reading lists and course materials
online but after contacting the CLA it appears that current regulations
make this cost prohibitive. The limited time spans for which material
can be displayed online before having to be removed is also a barrier
(in terms of cost, staff-time, and also needing to upkeep a paper
archive of readings). There seem to be some grey areas concerning
intranet/internet usage, distance-learning, and also displaying/linking
to documents which are already online. I am aware of a couple
regulations, such as applying to the web master for use of an html
document and access to online journals where a subscription relates to
an ip address. I'm sure that this concern, or similar ones, are
affecting many libraries and any advice would be very welcome and I will
summarize for the list.
Many thanks,
Stephanie Watson
