Subject: Reporter in US seeking help
Hello -
My name is Theta Pavis, and I am a technology reporter in the United
States.
I am writing a story about wireless technology being used in (all types)
of libraries, worldwide.
Nancy Gwinn of the IFLA in Washington, DC has been trying to help me but
so far my attempts to reach members in Europe and Asia have failed.
The magazine I am writing this story for is called "ON: the new world of
communications."
I would like to have information from several different corners of the
world for this article - Asia, Europe/Scandinavia, and the U.S.
Perhaps you might be able to recommend a libarian or two who is familiar
with wireless services being used in their facility, or perhaps you
might be able to provide some information directly about what is
happening in the UK.
Some of the questions I have include:
Can people reserve books via SMS services or get into the databases with
their cellular phones? Or will they be able to? Is any special content
being designed for people with PDAs? Are wireless laptops available to
check out in any of the libraries?
What wireless services if any, are being offered to the public? How is
wireless helping librarians behind the scenes? Are RFID tags being used
on books to help track them?
Which services are the most popular?
I can also arrange to do a phone interviews if possible.
Thank you very much for your time,
Theta Pavis
