So far I haven't seen this list used to record the deaths of people who were active in setting up the community, and I hope people don't think this is inadmissable or off topic, for I think we need to record those who made a significant contribution, or our history will be distorted.
John was cremated yesterday at the Linn Crematorium, just outside Glasgow (as I found when I wanted public transport information on how to get there).
He was Librarian of Ravensbourne College, during which time he set up what was probably one of the first small (ish) library systems and connected with the then new Joint Academic Network, forcing the institutions of higher education to deal with organisations not normally central to their thinking. Those were the days when we had to sort out comma delimited files, if we don't now. He then went to Glasgow School of Art, and probably had to do all the same sorts of things again. For I think his last three years in London he chaired the London Janet Uses Group. bringing the significance of small organisations and involvement of the users and victims to the attention of the teccies.
He was an active gay socialist trades unionist anti nuclear pro peace campaigner all the time I knew him, invovled with the formation of Libraries for Social Change, the Gay Librarians Group, Gay Rights at Work, and much else. There will not be his like again.
