Maurice,
Your colleague might be interested in "A complete practice of
midwifery" by Sarah Stone (London: printed for T. Cooper, 1737).
The author describes herself as a practising midwife and hopes
that her book will be of service to other "female practitioners".
We have a copy here in the Foyle Special Collections Library at
King's College London.
