Online Learning: Modules for Practioners January 05
Are you starting to develop e-learning modules, or thinking about this as
an option for your information skills training? The Centre for Lifelong
Learning, University of Birmingham, UK provides two modules aimed at
academic and support staff.
(1) Supporting online learning communities
Starts: 15th January 2005 (10 weeks)
Tutors: Danielle Hinton and Louise Woodcock
”The module forms an introduction to the key issues involved in supporting
and delivering online learning and teaching in higher education. The
emphasis will be on practical experience and active participation.
Participants will engage in a range of online collaborative and co-
operative group activities exploring key theories and issues in relation to
supporting online learning communities. They will apply the processes of
critical evaluation and reflection to all aspects of the programme.”
Gain: 10 credits at Level 3 (these University credits are transferrable)
(2) E-learning – content design and delivery Module
Starts: TBA 2005 (10 weeks)
Tutors: Danielle Hinton
“The module covers the underpinning knowledge necessary for participants to
design an e-learning programme. Participants will develop their knowledge
and skills in the design and development of e-learning programmes and the
assessment of on-line learning. The participants will engage in and
experience working in a co-operative learning set where they will work on
the development and design of an e-learning programme. They will apply the
processes of critical evaluation and reflection to their on- line work.”
Gain: 10 credits at Level 3 (these University credits are transferrable)
