Dear David,
In response to your questions:
1."Have you successfully obtained audio/visual material?"
In general I have found non-book material of all kinds to be rather difficult to obtain through ILL. This is due to two factors: a lack of locations (although this has improved due to access to Unityweb) and a general unwillingness to lend such material by other libraries outside our region. Therefore I normally advise the constituent counties of TalNet (Anglesey, Conwy and Gwynedd) to try to purchase, rather than borrow, non-book materials. However, if this not possible and if there are any locations to try, I am willing to contact the libraries concerned and ask - with mixed results (see second factor above).
2."Does your library supply such material on inter-library loan?"
Generally speaking, the TalNet counties will supply non-book material (i.e. talking books, audio cassettes, cds and videos) on ILL, even to libraries outside our region. This excludes DVDs and electronic reference material, and brand new items (less than 12 months old) which are not normally available outside county borders even within TalNet itself. You are welcome to request non-book material from us - our catalogue is accessible on the Internet at http://talisweb.talnet.gov.uk/.
3."Is there something/somewhere/someone I just don't know about, which will solve
my difficulties?"
If you find anything/anywhere/anyone else which can solve (y)our difficulties, please let me know!
Cheers,
Eleri Jones

Subject: Inter-Library Loans for Audio/Visual Material
Here at Canterbury Christ Church University College, we've been having an
increasing number of requests from our students/academics for audio-visual
material, generally videos, but also sound recordings. Thus far I have a very
poor track record finding them what they need. Hence I'm sending a call out
to the list to ask about others' experiences of ILL with such material.
Have you successfully obtained audio/visual material?
Does your library supply such material on inter-library loan?
Is there something/somewhere/someone I just don't know about, which will solve
my difficulties?
Any responses gratefully received!
David Bedford
