I am trying not to get too bogged down with the need to evidence everything listed in the written statement. From my
understanding of the regs it doesn't actually say you have to use those headings for the portfolio. It's obviously helpful to
have a structure, but as the broad range of headings is meant to cover a broad range of job areas there will be some sections
where you cannot show more than an awareness, ie you are not likely to be actively involved in something for every single section.
Having said here are some ideas:
If you are aware of issues relevant to the profession, ie your profession, then that's likely to come out in some of your work.
Have you had to implement any service changes due to new or updated legislation/policy, or due to developments in technology, or
due to a changing user group - you might have had to publicise this to your users or your colleagues. If you haven't actually
changed anything, your team or service is likely to have discussed relevant developments in meetings, maybe you have some minutes
which evidence your involvement. If you haven't actually done the publicising yourself, you could use a departmental leaflet,
nicely annotated to evidence your awareness of the issue and how it affects your job/your service/your users.
Objectives of the organisation - well here at SHU we have an annual planning system that connects department plans to institution
plan, team plans to department plan, and individual plans (from appraisal) to team plan, so I would be able to show the link
between my day-to-day work and the university's overall aims in that way. That's the theory - I admit I haven't actually tried to
get it written yet. But for example we discussed the department's new plan in our team meeting and contributed several more
short-term objectives for the coming year, and I'm intending to include that list in my portfolio.
Hope this makes some sense.
Best wishes
Laura

Subject: Understanding of the role of CILIP
Hello list,
I am struggling with a few elements of the portfolio evidence. Any advice about the following gratefully received:
1. What have you included in your portfolio to show evidence of an "understanding of the role of CILIP". I haven't had to produce
anything to show this during my training, as I think it is assumed that as members we should know this! The only thing I can think
of is to do a SWOT analysis of CILIP or a short analysis of its aims and objectives, both of which seem rather contrived.
2. What have you included to show that you understand the objectives of your organisations and how effectively these objectives
are met? As I have already discussed this in section one of the submission, I am at a bit of a loss what to include here. I don't
want to repeat myself.
3. How have you shown "awareness of a range of current issues of general concern to the profession". Again, I have discussed this
in the submission, but have not produced anything additional that covers this.
Thanks
