University of Oxford, Oxford University Library Services, Health Care Libraries
Head of Health Care Libraries
Academic Related Grade 5
Salary £37, 558 - £42, 573
We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced information professional with a sound understanding of academic libraries and of the NHS. The Head of Health Care Libraries (HCL) is responsible for delivering an integrated health library and information service from 4 sites. There are sites at the three main teaching hospitals in Oxford: the John Radcliffe, the Churchill and the Radcliffe Infirmary, together with a site at the Old Road Campus in Headington.
HCL provides full library services to the clinical departments of the University's Medical Sciences Division and to a number of NHS organisations, and others, under contract. The postholder will be responsible for the management of staff on all sites and the operation, coordination and further development of integrated library services not only among the 4 sites but also with the Radcliffe Science Library which holds the legal deposit collections for pre-clinical and clinical medicine. The Head of HCL reports to the Head of Science and Medical Libraries in Oxford University Library Services (OULS), Keeper of Scientific Books at the Radcliffe Science Library.
The successful candidate will be a graduate Chartered Librarian or equivalent with a minimum of five years professional experience, including work at a management level. Applicants must be able to demonstrate experience in managing staff and will have knowledge of the library and information environment within higher education and the NHS. Excellent communication skills are essential as the post requires liaison with a number of senior colleagues in OULS and with a wide range of other University and NHS staff.
