At least 2.4.20-30.7.legacysmp is OK, so please upgrade to that.
Now, the problem David referred to leaves a lot of complaints in
/var/log/messages (I think I asked you about that): for every
transfer there would be a warning that in.ftpd "called wait()
while ignoring SIGCHLD, workaround activated". Are they there?
