Brand new web services from CILIP at Online Information 2004
Personal profiles, employment advice and thousands of professional documents
delivered online to CILIP members
CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals is
launching a whole raft of new exclusive services for members at Online
Information 2004. For the first time, members will be able to view and
amend their membership details online, plug into an Employment Advice
Helpline provided for CILIP members by the Work Foundation - and gain free
access to hundreds of thousands of best practice documents via the
information profession's flagship database Library and Information
Abstracts.
"These new services are the first of the growing range benefits that will
come out of CILIP's recent website development," says Jill Martin, the
Institute's Director of Knowledge & Information. "With secure member access
to selected areas of the site, we can now provide services that can help our
members do their job more effectively - and develop their own careers at the
same time - no matter where in the world they are."
Library and Information Science Abstracts (LISA) is just one of a portfolio
of professional information sources that CILIP members can now access
online. Also included in the package are Information Research Watch
International, plus the full texts of 'Journal of Information Science' and
'Journal of Librarianship and Information Science' (which have been publicly
available online on a trial basis since the summer).
Employment law information from the Work Foundation completes the range of
new online information and advice services for CILIP members. Launched as a
telephone helpline at CILIP's Members' Day last October, the service now
adds a range of online resources, including: a low cost vetting service to
ensure your existing and new human resources policies reflect best practice
and current legislation; searching and dowloading from the Work Foundation
library holdings; management factsheets on issues from absence to
whistleblowing; Legal Watch database to keep you up to date with key
employment legislation developments in the UK and Europe; plus a regular
altering service, key employment statistics, and 'The Working Future' - a
new research journal covering workplace issues.
Finally, CILIP members can now check and amend their own membership records
online. As well as being able to edit details such as name, job title,
personal contact details and employee sector, members can also check their
membership number (needed to access services such as the Work Foundation's
Employment Law Helpline), their professional grade, CILIP Year Book entry,
and the Branch and Special Interest Groups they belong to.
So, if you're interested in finding out more about CILIP membership can help
you take control of your career, pay us a visit us on stand 168 at Online
Information 2004. All our new online services will be formally launched on
Wednesday 1 December at 13:00, so do join us then for a glass of wine and a
bite to celebrate!
