opportunity to lead the development of a dynamic and innovative 21st
century knowledge service in a stimulating and fast moving environment?
We are looking for someone with the strategic vision and ability to lead
Health Care Libraries (HCL) at an exciting stage in their development, with
the potential to enable the delivery of 21st century knowledge services to
a wide range of users.
HCL provides full library services to the clinical departments of the
University’s Medical Sciences Division and to a number of NHS
organisations, and others, under contract. An integrated health library and
information service is delivered from 4 sites. There are sites at the three
main teaching hospitals in Oxford: the John Radcliffe, the Churchill and
the Radcliffe Infirmary, together with a site at the Old Road Campus in
Headington.
The postholder will be responsible for the management of staff on all sites
and the operation, coordination and further development of integrated
library services not only among the 4 sites but also with the Radcliffe
Science Library which holds the legal deposit collections for pre-clinical
and clinical medicine. The Head of HCL reports to the Head of Science and
Medical Libraries in Oxford University Library Services (OULS), Keeper of
Scientific Books at the Radcliffe Science Library.
The successful candidate will be a graduate Chartered Librarian or
equivalent with a minimum of five years professional experience as well as
experience in management. Applicants must be able to demonstrate experience
in managing staff and will have knowledge of the library and information
environment within higher education and the NHS. Excellent communication
skills are essential as the post requires liaison with a number of senior
colleagues in OULS and with a wide range of other University and NHS staff.
