Dear Colleagues
please see message below - sent on behalf of Kim Jülicher

____________________________________

Come and find out about/debate the use of HIA to help address complex and
problematic issues in urban planning, regeneration and housing.

For the last three years, public health departments in Camden and Islington
have been developing the application of HIA with the aim of improving the
health and well-being of local communities in an urban environment.

Some key themes to be explored in presentations, interactive sessions and
workshops are:
Community involvement and participation in HIA
The role of HIA in the planning process
Working on HIA with different groups of stakeholders in the public, private
and voluntary and community sectors.

Examples from the last 3 years of the HIA Programme in Camden & Islington
will be used to illustrate key themes, including work done on:
HIA of 6 major redevelopment projects at King’s Cross;
HIA of proposal to develop a fixed site for needle exchange and other
services in the West End of London;
HIA of regeneration of the Market Estate-Caledonian Park;
development of screening-type tools to incorporate an HIA approach into the
routine work of local government officers.

We will also hold a discussion of the way forward for HIA in the light of
recent policy drivers for the use of integrated impact assessment (IIA) and
the development of sustainable communities.

Target Audience: people working on the broader public health agenda who
have experience of working on at least 1 HIA. No introduction to HIA will
be presented: it will be assumed that all participants have a working
knowledge of HIA.
