Things are of their time. Of course there could and will be improved
systems in the future - they could be versions of the systems present
now. That will not make the systems of today mediocre. 'Top of the range'
in anything will be replaced in time. That doesn't make them
mediocre at the time they were 'top of the range'. Whatever system you use
and whatever you think of EMIS, if you have used it, it and
the other leading systems are not "mediocre". To say so not only insults
those who produce the products but also those who use and
value them. One can only hope that he has been misquoted or quoted out of
context in some way. Otherwise it would be a staggeringly
contemptuous and uninformed view to hold, for someone in such a position,
let alone make public.
