In an attempt to increase the surgical workforce to meet a government pledge that no one will
wait longer than 18 weeks for treatment from GP referral by 2008, ministers are planning to train
nurses to perform surgery.
Under the Government's plans, the range of operations is expected to include hernia repairs,
vasectomies and arthroscopies, which will be performed by surgical care practitioners (nurses,
physiotherapists and operating department assistants) after two years of training.
So that is all right then!
