For the future can I recommend an external USB2 hard drive and
Powerquest DriveImage? I take a complete image of my disk once a week,
and the external disk can currently hold three images. So, if I lose a
file like you did I can easily go back 3 weeks. The imaging process
takes just over an hour (including verification) and files can be
recovered from the image very easily if needed.

Thanks Ewan
Dear Simon C has already done his best to help me but I fear all is
lost. I
don't think it was a recent deletion; probably a couple of weeks ago
when I
had an outbreak of enthusiasm for clearing out my archives & have
deleted a
folder instead of a file.
Ah well, life is fleeting is it not and correspondence even more so. A
fire
would have been worse & it will teach me to be more careful with the
delete
button.
