We were recently told that Boots' protocol uses a >15% 10yr CHD risk as the
treatment recommendation hence the frightened patients.
Mind you, I have found one familial hypercholesterolaemia whose lab result
was worse than Boots' 7.6

Subject: Boots - Cholesterol Testing and Simvastatin sales
We've had a number of patients coming up from Boots after having had
their cholesterol levels checked, and looking for statin prescriptions.
I had a brief chat with the pharmacist while on the phone about another
matter, and he says he's only following the protocol set up by the
company, and the patients are picking up the wrong end of the stick.
As those patients who came in are in the green sections on the charts, I
recommend not starting on a statin, but would continue with lifestyle
measures.
Anyone else experiencing this problem?
Michael
