nhs.net is a large internal network. Most of the IP address are internal
only and are not routable on the internet. Thus most of us apear as
121.212.121.212 or some such on the internet, with Network Address
Translation dealing with the packets as they return.
Other corportate nets tend to use routable IP addresses (with a large
block of addresses allocated) with a firewall. Marginally less secure,
but leads to less problems.
The other issue is that as NHS net is so much larger than other
corporate networks then the problem is worse. Even worse if the fact
that for bmj.com and locum123.com the customer base is relatively
concentrated on NHSNet.
