Michael,
I think you will find there is slightly more to this than a single appointment.
But all will change in April 2005 when, according to the DoH, there
will be no registration for dental patients. The dentist will
'simply' be handed a lump sum (based on historical spend) and told
there is a group to look after. Don't ask how it will work..don't
think the DoH know either. Furthermore anyone out there with a PEC
hat on you might want to ask the financial director what they know
about dental spend. Dentists who sign up to the new contract will be
guaranteed their gross income for 3 years. This, of course is made up
of patient charges as well as the government 'grant'. With patient
charges going up could I suggest attendance will fall: if dentists
incomes are to be made, the PCT is going to have to find a 'little'
extra, which of course they all have lying around.
