Once upon a time - a few years ago - Microsoft sold their software against
Open Source by saying that of course it was more expensive, you got what you
paid for and vice versa.
IE that their software was better in some way than any particular OSS.
Now they sell their software on the basis that it is cheaper, overall, if
virus protection and fixing is free, and that their development work to
integrate various (many) bits of software gives it added value compared to
OSS.
But what will they sell it on next year?
9 year contract, hmm.
