This posting from Lee on the EMIS list might be of use for future

For those of you, like me, who keep all of their EMIS list emails archived
(rather than deleted) I have found a very useful tool. It's also pretty
handy for everyone else.
Google Desktop (http://desktop.google.com) is an excellent service which
allows you to use the Google search engine to find information on your own
computer. Documents, emails, spreadsheets, web pages - it indexes them all
within your PC and provides an extremely quick way of finding anything.
Once installed you use the standard Google search engine
(http://www.google.com) to look for things. The first item in the search
results is always "Results stored on your computer".
For example, I typed "LV Printers" and it immediately found a shed-load of
emails from Outlook where the group were discussing printing problems.
The product is in Beta but seems 100% stable to me. It is also lightening
fast once the initial indexing is complete.
The only thing to watch out for is that anything you search for is sent out
over the internet so you may not want to look for patients names! You can
get around this by doing a "desktop only" search which simply involves going
to the Google site and clicking on 'Desktop'.
This is the handiest bit of freeware I've had in ages!
