If ukp450 plus expenses means 450 to the GP plus the funds to cover a
locum, the cost of arranging a locum, travel etc then they have set it
about right. I doubt they mean this though. It is probably 450 to
cover locum and if any remaining the GP gets this - which, quite
frankly, is insulting.
Costs to GP being out of the practice are considerable (properly sorting
out those patients deferred by locum, time to find/negotiate with a
locum, loss of usual work in that day for hitting targets, loss of admin
time). The folks I know who do consultation work, or even quite basic
training/teaching are around ukp800 a day.
GPs are capable of providing excellent input and are often good
consultants - they should be paid appropriately.
