We should NOT live with vetting of requests. If the clinician thinks
it appropriate then it is and the answer to excessive investigation is
through education.
Who will be liable if a request you made is negatively but incorrectly
vetted by someone in the lab who doesn't know all the facts? What if
the result slip returns the value "NOT INDICATED" and you, your locum
or partner shrugs and marks it for filing?
Somewhere down the line later your patient might come to harm.
