Dear colleagues,
within the framework of the BMBF (Bundesministerium fuer Bildung und
Forschung) funded joint project TIPTEQ we are looking for a PhD
student. Please, distribute this information among possible candidates
at your institution – thank you.

*******
TIPTEQ (from The Incoming Plate to mega Thrust EarthQuake processes)
aims at the investigation of the controlling parameters for subduction
earthquakes and the evolution of the forearc-arc system. The project
includes among other geophysical acquisition, geological fieldwork,
petrophysical experiments, as well as numerical and analogue simulation.
The aim of the Ph.D. project is to study relationships between
petrophysical properties of rocks (electrical conductivity, seismic
properties, development of porosity/permeability and fluid pressure)
and metamorphic dehydration reactions by „in situ“ monitoring in
gas-pressure equipment. Experiments will be focused on natural model
rock systems of diasporite and metapelite which show discontinuous and
continuous dehydration, respectively, with increasing P-T conditions.
Characterization of experimental products by various analytical methods
and modelling of results are integrated parts of the project.
Applicants must have completed a M.Sc. or Diploma in Earth or Material
Sciences (Geology, Mineralogy, Petrology, Geochemistry, Mineral/Rock
Physics) and be interested in performing experimental and analytical
work. The successful candidate should shown that she/he is able to
efficiently work in an enthusiastic team. Experience in experimental
petrology or petrophysics is not mandatory, but would be helpful.
The position will start on 1st of April, 2004. Funding will be
available (BAT IIa/2 O) for 3 years.
For further information, please contact either me or Dr. Frank
Schilling ([log in to unmask]) via e-mail.
Yours sincerely,
Anne Fenstra
