A 2-day discussion meeting on the theme of
Speciation and Toxicity
will be held on the 13th and 14th September 2004
at the Research School of Earth Sciences at UCL-Birkbeck, South Wing, UCL,
London
Keynote speakers include:
7 W. Davison (Lancaster University) Measuring speciation
7 P. Goering (US FDA) Speciation and toxicokinetics of mercury
7 J. Duffus (Edinburgh Centre for Toxicity) Toxicology and speciation
7 G. Morin (Paris University) Speciation and ecotoxicity of arsenic
7 J. Nriagu (University of Michigan) Environmental toxicity
7 W. Peijnenburg (RIVM, Holland) Toxicology and speciation
7 I. Thornton (Imperial College) Environmental geochemistry
7 J. Weeks (WRc NSF) Toxicological testing
The three main meeting themes will be:
1. Speciation. Studies on the mineralogical and geochemical properties of
toxic species, and measurement and monitoring.
2. Ecotoxicity. Studies on the fate and effects of toxic substances on
organisms, especially on populations and communities within defined
ecosystems, and methods of monitoring and measuring these effects
3. Integrated Studies. Studies linking toxic element mineralogical and
geochemical speciation with toxicity to plants and biota (including humans).

meeting is now online at:
