I am interested in segmenting white matter MS lesions only. I was wondering
whether one could first use a normalized T1 weighted image for a first
white/gray segmentation heavily weighted with priors to have a
"conventional" white matter segment, which could be used as a mask for all
the images (e.g. T1, T2, flair etc). Hopefully this segment would not show
lesions in it. Then one could mask the images (white matter only remaining)
and then segment the masked images using the current algorithms to get a
fourth "lesion" class. Would this be a possible approach to the problem?
