I _strongly_ agree with Bas Jasperse's approach - namely, using the
filename to store patient/scan ID information rather than relying on
software to preserve this in the header. This will hopefully improve when
we all start using NIFTI-1 at some point in the future, but for the moment
you should use the filename.
