DIIS wishes to appoint a researcher/senior researcher in the area
of ‘Conflict, Justice Enforcement and New Forms of Public Authority’ within
its Department of Globalisation and Governance Research (G&G) and with effect
from October 2004.
Job description
The G&G Department provides a multidisciplinary environment for academic
analyses and policy research of how global institutions and networks shape the
organization of trade, movement of people, circulation of ideas, and relations
of power, as well as the interconnections between these phenomena. The
department has a strong field work orientation. Currently, departmental
activities are organized around three focus areas of Trade, Diaspora and
Conflict. The successful candidate is expected to strengthen the theoretical,
methodological and empirical dimensions of a proposed programme on ‘Violence,
Crime and Development’ and to contribute actively to cross-departmental and
cross-institutional research. In collaboration with researchers and other
staff in the department/institute, the candidate will participate in the
following additional tasks:
- conduct, promote and coordinate independent research of high international
quality
- raise additional research funds
- carry out consultancies commissioned by parliament, government agencies and
others
- participate in the education and training of researchers and other relevant
groups in Denmark and developing countries
- establish networks that link Danish and international research communities

Required qualifications
Candidates for a position at researcher level are expected to have a recently
completed PhD, while those at senior researcher level are expected to have a
PhD and a minimum of three years post doc experience or the equivalent. In
addition applicants must document field work experience in developing
countries – preferably in Africa and/or the wider Middle East. Knowledge of
international and Danish development cooperation/humanitarian assistance is
considered an advantage. The appointed candidate will be, or is expected to
become, a Danish resident. In addition, s/he should master Danish and English.
Non-Danish speakers must over a three-year period acquire a working knowledge
of the Danish language.

Employment at this level is covered by the rules for the employment of senior
research fellows found in the Ministerial Circular on Job Structure at
Institutions for Sector research of 15 January 1997, according to the
agreement between AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations)
and the Ministry of Finance.
