Annual Forced Migration Student Conference
Calls for hosts for 2005 conference
Following the success of the 2nd Annual Forced Migration Student Conference,
the Advisory Board is soliciting proposals for hosting the next event in
2005. The 2nd Annual Forced Migration Student Conference was held in
Warwick University and attracted about 100 participants; we expect the 3rd
Annual Forced Migration Student Conference to be of similar size, and to
retain the same informal nature.
Visit http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/soc/crer/fmsc04 for information about
the 2004 and 2003 conferences.
While there is no set format for proposals, potential applicants should
address the following aspects:
1. Organisational structure
- How many students (MA/PhD/MSc students) are currently studying migration
in the institution?
- Who is the proposed local organiser(s)?
- What experience do the above have in organising similar events?
2. Conference-Workshop venue
- Where do you propose for the conference-workshop?
- What previous events have taken place at this site?
- What is their previous record in hosting events of this size?
- What are the attractive features of this venue?
- How accessible is the venue?
3. Organisational timetable
- What suggested timetable do the organisers have for publicity,
submissions, selection and acceptance (subject to discussion)?
- Are there additional, co-located, events?
4. Funding
- What is the outline budget for the event?
- What are the expected costs for participants?
- Are there any potential sponsors (e.g. ESRC, Nuffield, DfiD) and support
organisations (e.g. STAR group, etc.)?
Proposers are expected to have received prior approval from their respective
organisations to host the event (including authorisation for any advance
financial obligations).
Proposals should be submitted to Esme Peach at [log in to unmask] by email
before the 30th May 2004. The Advisory Board expects to make a decision on
this by the end of June.
