The Refugee Council, the leading charity working for refugees and asylum
seekers, carries out research and evidence collection to help us develop
informed policy and practice. Refugee issues feature in current debates on
citizenship, migration and social cohesion and with the government placing
increasing emphasis on evidence-based policy it is vital that policy decisions
take into account the vast amount of information that we have access to.
You will lead our research strategy, raising the profile of our research
activity and using outcomes effectively. This will encompass the co-ordination
of internal research work and evidence collection, working with partners in
the field and fully involving refugees and refugee community organisations.
You will play a key part in setting up a strategic research unit to
consolidate existing work and make best use of our knowledge and skills.
Experience of managing national projects with a number of partners is
essential, as is a sound knowledge of research methodology ranging from action
research to more quantitative work. A qualified researcher, you are
a strategic thinker with strong leadership and IT skills, a creative approach
and an understanding of policy and its impact. A good knowledge and
understanding of the needs and experiences of refugees and asylum seekers,
current policy and social policy research would also be an advantage.
