Saw your letter in FILM-PHILO. My(1994)book DIRECT THEORY deals
extensively with Brakhage's concept of "closed eye vision" from a
cognitive science perspective. Brakhage was not uninformed about
terms like "hypnogogic imagery." My book was published by Southern
Illinois University Press (Carbondale: 1994--reprinted in 1999):
check pp.50ff. Regarding CogSci, are you aware of the Society for
Cognitive Studies of the Moving Image? Contact Professor Joseph
Anderson at the Univ. of Arkansas, Conway, Arkansas. If I'm correct,
membership is still free. Please feel free to contact me if you are
unaware of either my research or Dr. Anderson's.
