INTERNET ECONOMIST
Our interactive tutorial on Internet information skills for economics has
been fully updated, with some sections completely rewritten. This site will
give freshers a tour of useful economics sites, and show them some of the
IT and critical thinking skills that will help them make efficient use of
the Internet for their learning. As well as students, the tutorial has
content aimed at teachers and researchers of economics.

Advice on how to use the tutorial in student sessions is given at:

WHY STUDY ECONOMICS? OPEN DAYS
In previous updates we have highlighted the ‘Why Study Economics’
initiative which has been developed to promote the study of economics to
school and further education students. The resources available on a Web
site include:

A guide to studying economics at university
An archive of frequently asked questions (FAQs)
A diary of economics-related university open days
Possible career paths for economics graduates
Graduate employment statistics for economics
A series of economics games, simulations and other activities for open days

We would be grateful if you could nominate someone to add any economics-
related recruitment events that your department/university is running to
our online database. This could be either an academic or an
administrator/secretary. The database will be a useful source of
information for teachers and school students of events for prospective
economics undergraduates. Event details can be registered through our
online interface at:

http://www.economics.ltsn.ac.uk/contact/openday.htm

If you want to publicise our Why Study Economics? initiative on your own
site, you can use the following piece of HTML code to insert a colourful
link button:

<a href="http://whystudyeconomics.ac.uk/">
<img src="http://www.whystudyeconomics.ac.uk/wse_small.gif"
style="width:90px;height:44px;border:0" alt="Why Study Economics?"
title="Information and advice on studying Economics in Higher
Education" /></a>

Alternatively, download the button from our home page.

3. AND FINALLY....

LOVE FROM COURTSHIP TO COURTROOM
One bold US economist has put up a PowerPoint presentation which looks at
how economics treats the subject of love and how the evolution of a love
relationship can be mapped on to the theory of the firm. Relationships, he
argues, go through recognisable stages from product conceptualisation and
market analysis to maximisation, long-run dynamics and eventual shut-down.

MUSIC OF A SORT
Labour Economist John DiNardo of the University of Michigan vents his
economics-related frustrations with what he calls "music, of a sort". His
songs include "(She Had) Non-Convex Desires", "(My Little)
Regression Discontinuity" and "I Wish Life Could Be (Like in the JPE)".
His "Monopsony in Motion" has even been cited in the Industrial and Labour
Relations Review. Lyrics and downloadable audio tracks are hosted on his
home page:
