Hello Everyone
I am based in The School of Fine Art, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art
and Design at the University of Dundee and funded by the AHRB. I am in the
third year of my PhD practice based/led research into thinking which takes
place during the creative process. I use drawing as a tool to investigate
the area and I use myself as the subject for research. ' a twenty eight day
drawing for conversation " began on the 7 June and continues until the 4
July. I draw each day until I am too exhausted to draw any more. The
drawing is based in Centrespace, at the Visual Research Centre in Dundee
Contemporary Arts Centre. ( 152 Nethergate, Dundee). During the 28 days I
will talk with practioners from neighbouring disciplines about the drawing
as it develops and what their practice can bring to mine. On the 14 June I
talked with Nicholas Davey,(Philosopher),Department of Philosophy,
University of Dundee, regarding anti space and drawing what is not visible.
On the same day I spoke with Luke Collins,Artist, about continual re
creation/invention of the self and the world through drawing, and in our
everyday lives. On 22 June with Dr Tony Crook, Visual Anthropologist from
the University of St. Andrews, I will examine other cultures
interpretations of the world and vestiges of such understanding in my own
consciousness, we will also talk about the skin. And finally on the 2 July
I will talk with Kirsteen Macdonald,Visual Arts Officer from The Changing
Room, Stirling, about what curators look for in art, and the necessity?? of
some element of visual comprehensibility. On the 6th July there will be a
Conversation for Closing where 3 of my conversation partners will be
joining me for a panel ( for want of a better word ) discussion. Additional
ideas for topics of discussion with the participants will be welcome. JPGS
of the work in progress can be viewed by contacting me at either the e mail
above or at [log in to unmask]
I look forward to hearing from you.
