Rob, an interesting posting. My first thoughts turn to childrens drawings. If our human self consciousness largely develops as we grow then perhaps it is possible to identify drawings from the very early stages (months rather than years) where this is not (or perhaps less) influential. But perhaps you mean ego to mean something other than self consciousness. I've talked to a lot of designers about their drawing activity and I can't think of an example of a design drawing that I've been shown that doesn't seem to be influenced by the maker's awareness of self. I've seen plenty of accidental drawings but I don't think I've seen any consciously made drawings that are not influenced by self consciousness.
