EVOLVE – An Interactive Drawing Installation.
18th September – 28th November 2004, Daily, 10am – 4pm.
The exhibition will take place at The Cornerstone Gallery, which is
situated at the centre of Hope University’s Everton campus (1 Haigh Street,
Liverpool, L3 8QB).
It will run for the duration of the Liverpool Biennial (18th September to
28th November). It will also be recognised as part of the “Big Draw 2004”,
an event which takes place in October (details at www.drawingpower.org.uk).
As part of the Independent strand of the Liverpool Biennial, the project is
seeking to engage with a wide range of people from the local community,
schools and universities, to an international audience and artistic
community. The project aims to involve at least 1500 people in a vibrant
and exciting drawing event, providing individuals with the chance to
explore their own interpretations of drawing and a rare opportunity to play.
Walls in the gallery will be covered with paper and visitors will be
encouraged to contribute to the drawing. After a set time, a section of the
drawing installation will be removed and displayed as a separate piece
elsewhere in the gallery. The space left by the removed section will be
filled with fresh paper to allow further development of the installation.
This process will be repeated throughout the duration of the exhibition.
The removed sections will become more complex and have a greater depth of
input as the exhibition progresses. As a result of this ongoing process,
the installation will constantly be evolving.
This exhibition will actively involve:
Artists: There are a number of Liverpool based artists who will be
involved in the project. Other artists will be encouraged
to contribute throughout the duration of the exhibition.
Students: The gallery is situated in Hope University’s Arts
Department. As a result, there is an existing body of
creative students who will be encouraged to contribute to the
project. Students from other universities and colleges will also be
invited to contribute to the project.
Schoolchildren/ Community groups: School parties and community groups
will play an important role in the success of the project. These
groups would be invited to take the part in organised
workshops within the gallery. Workshops will be led by artists
involved in the project.
General public: The exhibition will be open to the public for the duration
of the Biennial, providing individuals with an opportunity
to take part in the UK’s largest visual arts festival.
This exhibition is being run with the support of Hope University College,
The Cornerstone Gallery, afoundation, Derwent, Rennies arts and crafts ltd.
and Hobs reprographics.
For further information about the project, how to get involved, and on how
to get to the gallery, email: [log in to unmask] (please enter “evolve” in

I hope that you will be able to come along and join in the drawing.
