Hi Bridgid,
I had problems with this a few years back for a student with Cystic Fibrosis who was
going to need ongoing care while studying in the States. Insurance wouldn't touch
him.
In the end he took all his medication with him. His Consultant new someone
connected with the University Hospital near to where he was going to be studying, so
he was able to get an agreement that they'd look after his general treatment for
gratis. He came home in vacations for intensive therapy here on the NHS.
I'd suggest using an insurance broker to explore what the cost of insuring an existing
condition would be if they could find a company willing to underwrite the policy. The
difference could then surely be offset against DSA.
