Those of you in Scotland may be interested to know about these events:
My next guided tours of the Glasgow Necropolis will be on Saturday 21
and Sunday 22 August, both leaving at 2pm from the front steps of the
St Mungo Museum, Castle Street, Glasgow. The tours last around two
hours and will be followed by a hot chocolate or cold beer in a nearby
hostelry.
Also, as part of the BLOCK: Architectural Festival
(www.thelighthouse.co.uk), I will be leading two guided tours of the
Necropolis on Monday 20 (6pm) and Thursday 23 September (6pm), and a
guided tour "From Cathedral to Clyde" on Saturday 25 September (2pm).
These walks are free, but must be booked through The Lighthouse. As
usual, pub afterwards.
In addition, I will be speaking at a conference - "A Fine and Private
Place: Exploring Local Graveyards" - at the Smith Art Gallery in
Stirling on Saturday 4 September (10.30am t0 4.30pm). I will be talking
about how grave robbing influenced the design and operation of
Victorian cemeteries. This is a free event, but places must be booked
through the Council for Scottish Archaeology (0131-247 4119 or
[log in to unmask]). More information on
www.scottishgraveyards.org.uk.
Hope to see you at one of these.
Best, Ronnie
