New IST Calls launched (18 June 2004)
Three new calls under the Information Society Technologies programme (IST) were launched on Tuesday, 15 June: IST Call 3, Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) Proactive Initiatives Call, and a Joint Call between thematic priorities 2 and 3. Thematic priority 2 covers life sciences, genomics and biotechnology for health and aims to involve key stakeholders from industry, healthcare providers, physicians, policy makers, regulatory authorities, patient associations and experts on ethical matters. Thematic priority 3 covers "Information Society Technologies" in general, looking for direct contributions to European policies for the knowledge society and the e-Europe Action Plan, medium and long term RTD on the future generation of technologies integrating computers and networks into the everyday environment, placing the individual at the centre.

eGovernment Workshop on Semantic Interoperability

This workshop addresses an important challenge concerning the development of eGovernment services: reliable identification of data. Identification is crucial to make communication between computers and computer-systems possible. Such issues are often referred to as Semantic Interoperability. The workshop will describe state-of-the-art semantic interoperability in Europe by presentations of good practice.

ETR2A is the European Association for Telecommunications Resilience and Recovery. It aims to extend the understanding of the relationship between telecommunications, information security, disaster management and governance. It is looking to promote worldwide resilience for information and infrastructure, so that our communications are assured and their integrity is not compromised. The conference will look at what the new risks to that integrity are and how we can manage those risks.

Workshop on Open Source Software Competence in the Public

A one-day Workshop on Open Source Software (OSS) Competence in the Public Sector is organised, in order to allow the public sector bodies that provide assistance and advice on the deployment of OSS in public administrations to share their experiences, good practices and applications. The workshop is organised under the IDA programme, a European Commission driven strategic initiative using advances in information and communications technology to support rapid electronic exchange of information between Member State administrations. It is being held as part of the LinuxTag Conference and Exhibition.
