Ah, but that's a different question - yes, you have to conditionalize
calls to interfaces of different OS's - but that's true in any language,
unless you have a compatibility layer.
Now, surely, you can have a Unix layer on almost anything (Cygwin is a
popular one on Microsoft Windows OS's).
