I quoted some famous guru (I don't think it was Dijkstra) in an early issue of Fortran Forum who said around 1970 "Fortran is dead."
Since then we have seen several other languages come and go (APL, PL1, Ada, and Pascal could be mentioned, although each of them
probably still has its adherents).
